Dublin Central

CASE STUDY

Meet The Client.

Hammerson is an owner, operator, and developer of sustainable prime urban real estate. They aim to design and create vibrant city spaces that draw people in and promote economic growth.

Hammerson approached the Aerial team with a vision in mind. They needed our help to showcase their latest upcoming development: Dublin Central. To be located in the north inner city, Dublin Central is one of Ireland’s largest regeneration projects. It will act as a catalyst for growth and boost the local economy, with the potential for up to 9,400 construction jobs, and 2,500 jobs thereafter.

We knew we could help Hammerson capture the scope and value of this amazing development through aerial imagery. Read on to see how we delivered!

Standing out from the crowd

We focused on capturing both the size of this development and the scope of impact it will make. Our stills worked beautifully with the client’s CGI software and was a key element of their planning and marketing success.

Our Role

Before every flight, we take time to learn about our client’s needs and ensure we can meet their goals safely. This case was no exception. We collaborated with Hammerson to align with their vision and we did our homework to ensure the flight would comply with all rules and regulations. Our operational authorization means we can request special permission to fly in controlled, restricted, and prohibited airspace. Once we had our flight plan and authorization ready to go, we set a date!

As part of our research for this project, we worked with the Hammerson team to visit several inner-city rooftops to determine the best place to fly from. It was a sunny day so we were very surprised to see they had brought umbrellas with them, and even some for us. It didn’t take us long to figure out why; on one roof we disturbed a large flock of pigeons and they were not shy about making it rain little presents everywhere! We decided that we would fly from a different area on the day- for everyone’s safety and comfort.

As our flight date approached, the weather forecast looked bleaker and bleaker. A storm was due to roll in during our flight- so we prioritized everyone’s safety and rescheduled the work. This is something that can happen quite often in Ireland, but luckily we only needed to push out by a few days.

One Aerial team member monitored the site for safety and compliance. Two more Aerial team members managed the drone and captured the fantastic photos you’ve seen above. There were a few tricky elements to this flight- the client requested that we shoot at a very specific angle, and we needed to capture the facade of the buildings without buses in the shots (pretty challenging!). With patience, determination and great timing- we delivered!

This was a really satisfying job to complete, especially as we had been met with so many challenges from mother nature. Hammerson were delighted with the content we created and we consider this case a great success.

The Results

The photos we captured were integrated into a CGI tool to create a future state image of the site. Our client used the imagery for planning and marketing purposes. It featured across many platforms, including the Irish Times.
